Fashion Week Film Screening and Artist Talk: Whose Woods Are These
4–5 p.m. // Hunt Library, Visualization Lab

Please join us for a screening of Whose Woods Are These, a 7-minute animated short created entirely from woven fabric by Associate Professor Kate Nartker. Presented as part of the Wilson College of Textiles’ Fashion Week, this special event marks a full-circle moment as the film returns to NC State following a year-long festival run. The animation is composed of jacquard woven textiles that were scanned and sequenced frame by frame, transforming cloth into moving image. Inspired by a 19th-century family story set in northwest Ohio’s Great Black Swamp, the film reimagines themes of disappearance, wilderness, and wonder through a tactile, fiber-based lens. Following the screening, Nartker will share a brief presentation on the weaving and animation process, as well as the story that inspired the work, followed by a Q&A.

The Wilson College of Textiles will be hosting two Green Zone bins in the Textiles Carriageway (1020 Main Campus Drive) on April 22. Drive through the loop to easily donate textiles that can’t be reworn or reused. Curious about the bins? Wilson has been hosting them for more than seven years now! Read more here! Busy on Earth Day? No worries! There are 3 smaller drop off stations in the college that you can drop off whenever the university is open: 1 by the vending machines in Pod 4 on the 2nd floor, 1 in the W. We have the same Green Zone bin as pictured above at the college’s loading dock making it easy to swing by and donate.
